THE Otaru of Auchi Kingdom, in Edo State, Alhaji Aliru Momoh, Ikelebe III, has called on parents to impart the knowledge of the Qur’an to their children from tender age so that when they are grown, they would not depart from Allah’s commandments.
The traditional ruler made the call at the 21st Auchi Day celebration, an annual event, held at the palace ground in Auchi, on Monday.
The event climaxed with the finals of the 2018 Qur’an recitation competition which was witnessed by Auchi sons and daughters who had turned iout in their numbers to celebrate with the monarch.
Also present at the event were the state governor, Godwin Obaseki, represented by the Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Hajiya Rukyat Abubakar; members of the state House of Assembly, members of the House of Representatives, captains of industry and traditional rulers from Afemai land and beyond.
The monarch urged parents to always want the best for their children, saying the kingdom had enrolled children ages three and above in the Qur’an school in the hope that in the next 10 years, they would have become scholars.
“I am urging parents to expose their children to the knowledge of the Holy Qur’an from tender age so that when they grow, they will not depart from the injunctions Almighty Allah.
“Auchi Day started in 2010 to celebrate Allah. In 2015, we had the spiritual inclination to now have Auchi Day as a day to celebrate Allah through prayers to Him and recitation of the Holy Qur’an competition,” he added.
